So, we now have a new Prime Minister and Foreign Secretary and an Opposition party that would appear to be in complete disarray. Well, regardless of your view on this, or the referendum, we seem destined to be heading for the ‘Exit Sign’ above the door to the European Union and Brexiteers will have us believe that there is milk and honey on the other side. With all this turmoil and uncertainty, I for one am glad to be working in the creative industries, where design has been experiencing its fastest growth for years. In fact the creative industries have been growing at almost twice the rate of the UK economy as a whole. Figures published earlier this year revealed that the UK’s Creative Industries are now worth £84.1 billion per year to the UK economy. The value that design brings to the economy is undeniable.

Speaking following the Brexit decision, Deborah Dawton, Design Business Association CEO, stated: “The DBA’s message is clear: UK design is world leading. Our industry’s proven ability to drive both business and economic growth has not changed, nor has the quality and effectiveness of our offer. UK design is a potent business asset and a sound commercial investment.”

So, the arguments for ‘design’ are resounding – it’s a drum we can, and will, wholeheartedly and repeatedly beat.
