The idea of controlling household appliances via your smartphone is nothing new. The problem is making it practical and easy to use, which has proven difficult over the years. Lg have released smart thinq which hasn't quite hit the 'nail', but it's getting closer! A refrigerator which logs what ingredients you have inside, then gives you recipes using them ingredients, that sounds pretty cool to me!

The power of rebranding!

31.01.12
This is Lizzie Grant, a failed musician who released her first album back in 2011. It's obvious from listening to her music that she has a special voice but lacks any charisma or stage presence. Her album flopped and it looked like she wasn't going to be accepted by the music industry or the general public.

2012 - This is Lana Del Rey from New york who brands herself as the 'Gangsta Nancy Sinatra'. Her vintage, retro, image is very much in vogue at the minute, which always helps if you are young, talented musician looking to break into the industry. Something has definitely worked for her, she has a 2 singles and an album in the top 10. As you may have guessed Lizzie and 'Lana' are the same person. The voice and the songs are exactly the same but with a whole new image to match. This shows how effective a rebrand is and how easily we as people are manipulated to accept something we already had, Very clever! Click here to see her video >

The £25 logo

25.01.12
"Many designers are outraged by the growing number of spec and crowdsourcing sites offering logo work for extremely low prices. But what kind of service do these sites really supply? London design studio Mat Dolphin decided to try and find out..."

An interesting article about the topic which is currently polluting the design industry. I wanted to include an image of the logo which is talked about in this article, but It's so bad, I can't bring myself to do it! This, in itself speaks volumes about the  kind of work these people put out. Read more here >

Weekly Brand #5

Dc Comics - There were a few big rebrands to choose from this week., however, this one steals it for me! The 'image knockout effect' is used everywhere at the minute, including on some of our most recent work! But when done properly it works a treat. See more here >

Weekly Brand #2

The rebrand that never was! This is the work of London design agency Moving Brands. It was started back in 2008 but only made public a few weeks ago. It is said that HP are not going ahead with the rebrand which is a shame as we think it's a nice piece of work. A lot of thought and effort gone to waste!
